Glenfin manager Paul Bonner praised the dedication of his side as they picked up a sixth Donegal senior ladies title on Saturday against Termon.
After missing out on last year’s final, for the first time since 2013, the side were intent on getting back to the decider.
And with heartbreaks in the 2022 and 2023 finals, a big push was on to reclaim the Donna Dunnion Boyle Memorial Cup.
“It definitely makes these days sweeter, our last final we lost after extra-time and free kicks to Termon, but we decided to give it one more shot this year, and thankfully it all worked out, the girls deserved it.
“Last year we were in the shield final and the girls took onus on themselves, they felt they should have been better, and they knuckled down this year and put us in a better position so that we could challenge for this title.
“Every night at training we were getting good numbers of 26/27 and every single one of them have such an impact that they probably don’t even realise.
“It was a massive squad effort and I’m really pleased for everyone.”
A strong wind in their favour in the first half had them 1-4 to 0-2 ahead at the break, thanks to Yvonne Bonner’s goal.
And Bonner struck the net again early in the second half as the Páirc Taobhoige side went as much as ten ahead, before winning by 2-8 to 0-5.
“It was cagey enough in the first half. We were trying to get the girls to push out a bit, and we were trying to get that message out there at times, which is hard in the thick of the game.
“But I think that second goal, once it went in, really put us on the front foot.
“The backline, we worked on it all year, and they were very solid in there. They work extremely hard and they were as disciplined as anything.”

It’ll be Tyrone champions Errigal Ciaran in the Ulster Championship next, but Bonner admitted they haven’t thought too far ahead yet.
“We haven’t looked at that yet, we’ll worry about celebrating this first and then the next two weeks we’ll look after that.”
