Aodh Ruadh mentor Mark Sheerin has been soldiering for the Aodh Ruadh hurling cause for many years.
And, he and Daithi Breen were happy men when referee James Connors called time on an epic encounter that saw Aodh Ruadh take their second title on the trot against Setanta in the Under-21 Shield final by 0-13 to 1-6.
“The lads showed great character playing into a huge win in the second half.
“And we did it without Johnny Lin, our man of the match for the last ten minutes, which is a great testament to the rest of the lads.
“Kyle McNulty was also injured, and he came back on in the second half, and that shows great character, and we travelled here with just sixteen players.”
And they did it without fine hurlers like Joe Gibbions, Garreth Brennan, Ryan Keenaghan and Damian Weber.
“Fair play to the lads who turned out today and put on a great exhibition of hurling.
“They showed great grit to come through, and Danny Breen’s frees into the wind were so crucial.

“Aaron Cullen hit some great scores in the first half as well.”
Sheerin added that this win is a great boost for the entire club.
“We have had very little silverware across our codes this year, and I think our Ladies were our only winners, so it means a lot to the club.
“It is a big boost for hurling and hopefully it translates into the senior side.”
