Jason McGee has had an extended run back in the Donegal team, and he is enjoying how the season has begun for himself and Donegal.
Donegal won by 1-20 to 0-19 to make it four wins from four in Division 1, and the Cloughaneely man has started all of those games, only coming off with seven minutes to go against Mayo.
Those sorts of minutes can be taken for granted, but the big Donegal man doesn't do such after having two operations on his hip in the past couple of years.
And he put in a Man of the Match performance in the win over the Orchard County in the Athletic Grounds on Sunday.
“It was a belter of a game, between ourselves and Armagh, we have a habit of producing these types of games.
“We knew from the very off that it was going to be a difficult test coming up here, especially with Armagh scrapping for points at this stage of the league, but we’re just delighted to get out on the right side of it.
“We’ll take it step by step, it’s nice to get a chance now to really go after the league whereas we couldn’t in other stages but we’re four (wins) from four, we have a lot of bodies on the pitch at the minute and we’re going well, building up a bit of momentum and I’d like to keep it going.”
McGee was named at full forward and wore the number 14 on his back, but he played much further out in the field than that.
He was instrumental in Donegal winning kick-outs as he went into midfield, but he played an important role in scoring four points in the win as he looks to be getting back to his best after a great run of games.
“It’s nice to try myself out in a different position and get around the pitch as much as I can. At this time of the year, it’s all about getting minutes under the belt and getting the body conditioned, so we’re happy with where we’re going at the minute.
“I haven’t started a league campaign in maybe two years, and I probably only played one or two games in the league in the past two years, so it’s good for me to be in the shape now and be fit to play and get the body ready for the championship.”
The Falcarragh native praised some of the players who have come into the team and are getting more of a run out in this year’s league campaign.
Newer additions into the squad, such as Conor McCahill, Turlough Carr, Shea Malone and Paul O’Hare, all got minutes on Sunday, while the injury to Shaun Patton has given Gavin Mulreany a prolonged run in the team.
“Nothing much fazes Gavin, (Shaun) Patton will be sweating now! It’s a good headache for Jim to have, but in fairness to Gavin, he has stepped in there and done an excellent job for us, and he’s been outstanding since the start of the year.
“Them lads are coming in and taking it in their stride, and they’re giving the older lads a bit of a push and a bit of energy as well. They came in, and they’ve taken to it very well, and they’re all standing out, Conor, Shea Malone, and not to forget, Finnbarr (Roarty) is also one of them younger lads too, so it’s exciting times, we have a good bunch of players coming through.”
