Donegal could be back in Croke Park at the end of the month in a NFL Division 1 final
1 Conor O’Donnell is Donegal’s most lethal scoring weapon right now
The Carndonagh man might have been an All-Star nominee last season but he’s somehow managed to find another gear early on in 2026. O’Donnell is Donegal’s top scorer to date in the NFL with 3-11 from the side’s five Division 1 outings so far. The first of his three green flags, against Mayo in Letterkenny, was predatory in nature as he timed his back-post dart to perfection before slamming Peadar Mogan’s square home. However, his other two, against Armagh away and Galway in Ballyshannon, were completely forged in raw pace and clinical finishing. Is there a more exciting player to watch in Gaelic football right now? That kind of form is going to mark him out as Donegal’s main attacking threat right now but he’s much more than a score-getter. He drops deep and makes it happen by forcing the issue. The aforementioned goals back that up. His ‘give and go’ with Shane O’Donnell to carve Armagh open at the Athletics Ground was a conjuring up play out of absolutely nothing. The Orchard were deep in their defensive set but quick hands, and more importantly, bravely, were rewarded. If he can sustain this kind of impact into summer, then he could well have one of those coveted individual statuettes on the mantlepiece back home before the season is out.
