Moville continued their positive start to the league with an impressive ten point victory over Na Rossa at Carrick Field on Saturday evening, building on last week’s win over Robert Emmets.

From the opening exchanges, Moville played with energy and intent, with Michael Leech winning early ball in in midfield, supported by Joshie Lafferty’s hard running and Malachy McDermott’s distribution. Breezy conditions made scoring tricky, and Na Rossa were restricted by the Moville defence to shots from distance that saw two early wides, before they found their range with a point from play, followed quickly by a Séimí Pat McLaughlin score for Moville in reply.

Further Moville scores from the Dáithí Peto and Malachy McDermott kept the scoreboard ticking before Evan Hudner blasting into the net to give Moville a four point lead five minutes out from half time. With the kickout turned over by Peto, Danny Murphy took the pass to land a fine score and the momentum was all with Moville, as Peto ghosted in to the box to collect a sensational pass from Christy McLaughlin and bury the ball past the Na Rossa keeper for a second goal.

With energy high, and the wind still at Moville’s back, Lafferty saw out the half with a fine two point score from play to give Moville a 2-7 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Despite that cushion, Na Rossa came out for the second half with real spirit and stuck to their game – trying to hold possession and use the breeze to take any chance of a score that they could. With Aidan McHugh and Conor McCahill in fine form the strategy paid some dividends, with four two pointers landed in the half, including three from frees, and a fine save required from Moville netminder Stephen Teles to deny a goal.

Manager Gerard Faulkner will have been delighted by the composure his side showed as the pressure came on, with McDermott’s experience in the middle matched by Danny Murphy’s scoring prowess as he kept the scores coming, ably supported by Hudner and Christy Hegarty – whose goal in the 55th minute killed off the game and made for a comfortable finish for Moville.
