Carla Hernando with Termon officials at the Burn Road this afternoon
Carla Hernando, a young woman from Bilbao, Spain made her Termon debut against Letterkenny Gaels on Sunday.
As Termon GAA explain: Carla has made headlines in Ireland after joining the Termon GAA Club to play Gaelic football. Her journey began as an opportunity to learn English, but she soon found herself immersed in a new culture and a new sport.
Carla arrived in Ireland with the goal of improving her English skills, and lived with a local family in Donegal and attended Loreto Community School in Milford. As she settled into life in Ireland, she became fascinated by the local culture, including the sport of Gaelic football.
She had played basketball back in Spain, but she had never heard of this unique Irish sport before. Despite her lack of experience, Carla was determined to try her hand at Gaelic football. She joined the Termon GAA Club, and it wasn't long before her natural athleticism and competitive spirit caught the attention of her teammates and coaches. Carla made her debut for the U-16 ladies.
According to team manager Brian Trearty, Carla quickly became a valued member of the team: "She's a great athlete and a quick learner."
