Na Rossa 1-12: 1-11 Urris
Daniel Martin Melly was the hero of the hour with a last gasp goal to earn the hosts a narrow win over Urris, in Lettermacaward, on Saturday afternoon.
Just a point separated the sides at the final whistle with Melly’s injury time strike the deciding score for the locals in their first outing of the season.
Urris suffered a surprise opening day home defeat by Naomh Ultan last weekend, so they were keen to bounce back.
The Innisowen men played with the advantage of a stiff breeze in the first and took the game to Na Rossa from the off. They led by two points 0–7 to 0-5 at half-time.
Na Rossa drew level early in the second half and it was 0-9 each when Urris were reduced to 14 when they lost midfielder Gavin McDaid for a second yellow card offence.
But despite being down a man the visitors kicked on again and with under ten minutes remaining they were four up, 1-10 to 0-9.
However Na Rossa, with 2012 All-Ireland winner Adrian Hanlon at full forward, produced a strong finish but were still down by two when Melly struck for the clinching goal.
