Kevin McCormack in action for MacCumhaill's in last year's U-21A Football Championship
Sean MacCumhaill's banished their heavy defeat in their last league outing against Aodh Ruadh with an excellent away performance against Realt na Mara on Saturday afternoon.
Realt na Mara 0-11 MacCumhaill's 1-14
A fine performance from corner forward Kevin McCormack, who finished with a 1-7 tally saw the Twin Towns side ease to a deserved victory. The home side started brightly with points from Ryan Barrett and Kyle McNulty before a reply from a McCormack free.
Then in the 11th minute a well-worked move saw Steven O'Reilly offload to McCormack who finished well to the Bundoran net.
The lively Jamie Keegan was next to get on the scoresheet before Ryan Blanc hit Bundoran’s third point on 14 minutes. Keegan again hit another point but this was soon cancelled out by a very well-taken score from McNulty.
Three points on the bounce - two from McCormack frees and a fine effort from full forward O’Reilly eased the visitors five ahead before a Timmy Govorov free and a Peter McGonigle point for the Seasiders left the half-time score Realt na Mara 0-6 MacCumhaills 1-6.
A strong start to the second half saw the visitors extend their lead with two further McCormack scores. Another point from Govorov was quickly cancelled out by the athletic Sean Martin after some patient MacCumhaills play.
Both teams exchanged further points from Keegan and Barrett before two well-taken efforts from O'Reilly put seven points between the sides with 10 minutes left on the clock. Another McCormack free was replied to by substitute veteran Tommy Hourihane on 56 minutes.
As the game entered injury time MacCumhaills emptied their bench and two final scores from Govorov frees brought the game to a predictable conclusion. Bundoran find themselves in real relegation danger with only one home and two away fixtures remaining .whilst this win will boost Sean McCumhaills survival hopes.
