Naomh Muire defeated Burt at the weekend.

Naomh Muire held on against a battling Burt at a windy Banks on Sunday afternoon to record their first win in the Intermediate Football championship.

Naomh Muire 0-10 Burt 1-6

After last week’s first round defeat away to Red Hugh’s, the Lower Rosses men got up and running with a narrow win over their visitors from Hibernian Park.

The locals played with the strong elements in their backs in the first-half and led 0-6 to 0-1 at halftime.

Harry Harden with three pointed frees, Paddy McCafferty, Darragh White and Joey Gillespie were the Naomh Muire scorers. John Fitpatrick, with a pointed free, scored the Burt point.

Conor Garland got the second-half off to a perfect start for a Burt team chasing their first win when he pounced on a long range free for the game’s only goal.

Naomh Muire responded to that with two Eoin Martin frees to restore his side's four-point lead. Naomh Muire now held a 0-8 to 1-1 advantage.

And it was a one-point game again thanks to strikes from Darren Gallagher, the ageless Martin Donaghy and Dara Grant.

With the game on a knife edge Harden knocked over two points for a three-point lead once more.

Burt piled on the pressure and with time almost up Michael McHugh cut the Naomh Muire lead to one. But that was as close as Burt got and Naomh Muire held on for the just about deserved win.
