Naomh Conaill boss Martin Regan.
Naomh Conaill were chasing the game for most of the first-half of last Saturday evening’s clash with Milford in Moyle View Park.
And it took a late John O’Malley point to level the tie at 0-4 each before the teams headed for the dressing room.
But despite that lacklustre opening period, Glenties manager Martin Regan insisted the hair dryer treatment was not needed at the midpoint. And, he was right, as his team eventually earned a comfortable 1-12 to 0-8 victory.
“The boys knew themselves at the break they left a lot of scores behind them in the first half and they were disappointed with that, “ said Regan.
“They stepped it up a gear or two in the second half and kicked on and it was fairly comfortable for the last ten minutes.”
For the third week in a row Regan turned to the subs bench in the second stanza and introduced Seamus Corcoran, Mark McDevit, Ultan Doherty and Marty Boyle.
“The bench has made a big difference in all the games over the last few weeks. I thought the subs that came on last weekend were brilliant and it was a similar story today. They all made an impact. That is important going forward - You need 20 or 22 players all the time.”
Naomh Conaill showed two changes on Saturday night from the team that drew 0-9 each with St Eunan’s six days earlier.
Anthony Thompson and Logan Quinn replaced A J Gallagher and Eunan Doherty, in the defence.
“The beauty about the numbers we have, it gives us the option to change things around from week to week. Whatever 15 we put out and whatever 15 we finish with, we know it is going to be strong.”
Naomh Conaill go into the final round of group games on five points and are bidding for the direct route to a place in the last eight. They now face Glenswilly at home on Saturday evening.
“We are in a good place sitting on five points and we have a chance of making the top four. But at worst we are through to the knockout stage and that was the goal at the start of the championship.”
