Donegal’s interest at Down kingpins Kilcoo stands at three with boss Karl Lacey also joined on the sideline by both Barry Dunnion and Cathal Ellis.

Kilcoo won a fifth straight Down club football title at the weekend after defeating Burren 2-12 to 0-9 in a final engulfed by a referee controversy prior to throw-in.

Kilcoo failed in an appeal to the DRA against the appointment of Paul Faloon for the decider before Brian Higgins eventually took charge of matters at Pairc Esler.

In the end, it was a routine enough win for Kilcoo, who led 0-8 to 0-3 at the midpoint. And second-half goals from both Michael Rooney and Paul Devlin sealed an eleventh SFC victory in twelve seasons.

Lacey’s involvement with Kilcoo has been well documented but Dunnion and Ellis’ roles had escaped attention.

Dunnion was of course involved with Naomh Conaill last term and Martin Regan is on record stating just how influential the former Four Masters and Donegal star was there.

Naomh Conaill clubman Ellis is one of the most highly thought of physios in Donegal and previously served under Declan Bonner in his senior intercounty backroom set-up.
