Ireland's Over-50 side
Donegal’s Paul Gallagher landed two goals at the weekend to see Ireland secure a 100pc series victory against Australia in the Over 50s International Rules test.
The second test in the Over 50s was the first game on the card at Denn GFC on Saturday. The Australian Masters team trailed 63-9 after the first test in Curry GAA on March 2, but they made sure that they brought their 'A' game to Cavan, making it really hard for this Ireland side for large portions of the match.
Better finishing could have seen Australia level the series on a test apiece, with two goals (12 points) from Gallagher key in Ireland's 30-19 win.
The Australian side, for whom Adrian Wilson scored a fantastic goal for the visitors with Brett Hall their best on the ground, can hold their heads high after a performance of grit and heart.
It was made all the more special from a Donegal point of view when team captain Noel Casey accepted the silverware after the match, with the trophy recently named the Charlie Gallagher Cup, in honour of the Donegal man who played with distinction in the 2016 Over 40s series, who passed away in 2022.
Donegal also had representatives at management level with Mark Cannon part of the Men's Over-50s backroom team.
