The remnants of Storm Kathleen coupled with a local rivalry provided a tasty game in Gerard Gallagher Park, Mountcharles with Ardara getting the scores late on to secure victory and the Division 2 points.

Both sides played better against the elements, especially the locals,  who didn’t register until the 22nd minute playing with the wind in the first half. Indeed, they had at least 10 good scoring chances that went abegging in that opening half.

By that stage Ardara had three points on the board from Jamie Elliott, CJ Molloy (free) and Paul Walsh.

Declan Duignan had the St Naul’s opening point from a free and by half-time they were back on terms with points from John Rose and an Ian Campbell free.

The first big turning point came three minutes into the new half when a high ball was fielded by CJ Molloy and he was upended and Jonathan McHugh fired home from the penalty spot.

But St Naul’s stayed in the contest with points from Thomas White and John Rose while Calum Malley had one for Ardara.

With 11 minutes left, both sides were reduced to 14 with red cards shown to Conor Classon of Ardara and Ian Campbell of St Naul’s, which didn’t referee Ryan Walsh to either side.

But then in a two minute period between the 55th and 57th minutes Ardara closed out the game with points from Niall McCrossan, CJ Molloy, Calum Malley and Kevin Whyte.

Both sides were to add one more point each but at that stage Ardara had the points secure.
