Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe prove too strong for Termon in All-Ireland Gaeltacht final

Termon side that lost the All-Ireland Gaeltacht final to a strong Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe side

Termon 3-9
Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe 1-8

Despite giving their all for nearly an hour, the speed and intensity from Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe was just too much for Termon to handle as the Galway side ran out of Cork All-Ireland Gaeltacht winners with a seven-point victory.

Three second-half goals were the key difference between the two teams despite goalkeeper Roisin Nic Eachmharcaigh putting in a superb performance and pulling off several important saves throughout the day

But as the bodies tired, the gap in the scoreline widened with the Galway side deserving winners on the day.

After Termon’s Geraldine Nic Lochlainn took the lead with an early free, Andrea Trill broke the line and could’ve had a chance at goal but opted to nail over on the fifth minute following it up with a free a minute later to take the lead.

Nic Lochlainn would nail over off the right from distance to bring it back level, but Baile was superb at breaking down Termon’s defence in the opening minutes with Deirdre Ní Bhraonáin feeding the ball to Chellence Trill who found herself through on goal, but like Andrea Trill, opted for the point.

E Ní Ríordáin kicked over from distance to make it 0-4 to 0-2, and it could’ve been more when Trill found herself one-on-one with Termon’s keeper but she was on guard and pulled off a majestic safe with her right hand to push the ball out for a 45 and keep her side in it.

Nic Lochlainn kicked over her second free to make it 0-4 to 0-3 on the 14th minute, but a series of Termon attacks only resulted iwides as corner-forward Ní Riada furthered the gap when she kicked over from a tight angle off her left.

Nic Lochlainn was superb as she led from the front for the Donegal side, as she made it a one-point game following her third free and would level matters three minutes before the half-time break with her deadball skill really impressing as Termon kept fighting.

Andrea Trill would open the scoring in the second half after two minutes when Baile’s running play again broke Termon’s defensive line to kick over but so nearly found the net.

Termon’s Nic Eachmharcaigh was again on hand to pull off a great save when Baile’s Ní Bhraonáin fired low to the net to keep her side one point behind.

Baile were putting the Donegal side under severe pressure as Termon found it hard to get out of their half with the ladies in green and gold bringing a new level of intensity to the game.

Nic Eachmharcaigh was playing out of her skin in nets and was very much keeping her team in this game when she pulled off another enormous save after Baile’s Ní Bhraonáin was left one-on-one and attempted to fire into the corner of the goal.

Nic Lochlainn would level matters when she hit over her side’s first point of the half, but Baile responded with Trill free to put them back in front as the sides approached the final quarter of the match.

Nic Lochlainn landed her sixth to level the match but then Baile struck for goal when an unmarked Ní Fhágáin received the ball in the corner and squared it to half-back Ní Shléibhín, but Nic Eachmharcaigh couldn’t stop this one as it found the back of the net with 14 minutes of normal time left in the game.

Trill made it a two-score game with another free resulting in a white flag being raised, but the Baile ladies ended the contest in the final 10 minutes when Trill slotted home her team’s second goal when she darted through several Termon defenders at speed to leave herself one-on-one before striking low into the corner to make it 2-8 to 0-7 points.

Despite Baile’s Nic Gabhainn receiving a sinbin in the final minutes of the game, it didn’t impact their side’s overall result, despite a slight resurgence from the Termon ladies with Ní Gharbhaigh blasting the ball into the back of the net when she powered through three defenders.

But Trill would end the game on a high as she found her side’s third green flag in the final seconds of the match to end the game with a 3-9 to 1-8 scoreline.
