Devenney, who was a part of the Donegal LGFA board since 1993, a year after its formation, was born and has lived all his life in Cormullion in Laghy.
He played club football with Drumbar GAA club at juvenile, minor, and junior levels. When the club folded in the early 1970s, he played for a couple of seasons at junior level with Four Masters.
Devenney has held the role of chairman for Donegal on five separate occasions and other than the secretary role, he has held every other position on the county board.
The Laghy native has been President of the Ulster Council on two occasions while also being on the National fixtures committee and has been the National Culture and Language officer which gave him a seat on the national executive.
Devenney was honoured with a ‘Special Recognition Award’ at Tullyglass Hotel in Ballymena for his dedication to Ladies football in the county back in 2018.
