Gary Boyle’s Donegal U-20s now know their Dalata Hotels Ulster semi-finalists after the quarter-finals held tonight.
Cavan and Tyrone won their quarter-finals against Down and Armagh respectively and because Donegal have already played Tyrone and Derry have already played Cavan, the semi-final line-up will see Donegal play Cavan in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey on Wednesday of next week and Derry will host Tyrone in the other semi-final tie.
Cavan, as predicted, got the better of Down in Breffni Park on a comfortable scoreline of 2-26 to 1-13. The Breffni men were never headed and but for the opening seven or eight minutes when there was just a point in the game, Cavan pulled away to win easily.
They led by 0-16 to 1-7 at half-time and kept the scoreboard moving throughout the second half.
The other quarter-final was close for three quarters of the game and Armagh would not have been happy with a couple of decisions which really turned the game. They were a goal up at the time (1-11 to 0-11) but two big decisions saw Tyrone get a goal and a point. Conall Sheehy got the goal on 48 minutes.
They would go on to add two more goals but the final scoreline of 3-15 to 1-11 wasn’t a fair reflection on the Armagh effort.
