DCU players celebrate their narrow win over UUJ in the Sigerson Cup quarter-final
DCU managed to squeeze into the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup having been run to the bitter end by University of Ulster Jordanstown.
The defending champions - winners the last time the competition was contested in 2020 - were 2-12 to 2-11 winners on home turf, having come from three down at half-time, 0-6 to 0-3.
Dungloe’s Mark Curran started and scored a point from right corner-back. Shane O’Donnell of St Eunan’s and Seamus Óg Byrne from Killybegs both came on in the second half. Termon’s Jamie Grant, MacCumhaill’s Oisin Gallen and Ross Marley from Glenfin are part of the DCU panel.
Mark Barry and Red Óg Murphy were the goal-scorers for DCU, while Derry’ Niall Loughlin, who scored a goal against Down on Saturday night, hit 1-3 for the northern side.
Darragh Canavan, the Tyrone All-Ireland winner, scored a late goal for UUJ, who had thrown Conor Glass into the fray in a desperate bid to force extra-time.
