St Columba's College with the Ulster LGFA U-20 Ulster Erne Cup in Letterkenny
St Columba’s College Stranorlar were victors in the all-Donegal Erne Cup Ulster U-20 final against Rosses Community School at O’Donnell Park.
St Columba’s College, Stranorlar 7-11
Rosses Community School, Dungloe 0-1
Abbie McGranaghan scored 3-3 for the victors, who were in control from the off. A whirlwind start by the side from the Twin Towns meant for a 3-4 to 0-0 lead by the first-half water-break - which is still part of the ladies game. Those goals came from McGrenaghan, Katie Dowd before Niamh Browne grabbed a third.
The side managed Lauren McGill and Sean Boyce continued in their positive vein with a fine individual goal on the run from McGranaghan on 24 minutes and then Elin Gallen put a fifth goal in the top corner. It was 5-6 to 0-0 at the break.
It was a tough day out for Rosses, who were crowned U-16 champions last Thursday following a comprehensive win over St Cecelia’s from Derry. With a huge overlap between their sides last week and this, their young team have plenty to look forward to.
They never gave up the fight all day in Letterkenny. Points from Browne, McGranaghan and substitute Emily Boyce made for a 5-9 to 0-0 St Columba's lead at the three-quarter mark and Emily Boyce and Emma Neeson added scores late on. Ciara Gallagher managed to find the net with five minutes left before McGrenaghan scored her hat-trick goal.
Rosses had a number of second half chances and did manage to point through Tara Geoghegan.
