The Donegal minors are back in action in the Jim McGuigan Cup this weekend when they travel to Celtic Park on Saturday (12 noon) to take on Derry.

So far Luke Barrett's charges have had one win and one defeat.

They opened their campaign with an impressive 2-13 to 0-7 win over Fermanagh at the Donegal Training Centre with goals from Karl Joseph Molloy and Seanan Carr on a perfect day for football.

A week later they were undone in Kingspan Breffni Park in a ding-dong encounter with Cavan.

The difference between the sides in the 1-10 to 0-10 Cavan win was a wonder goal from Michael Smith just four minutes from the end.

The bulk of the Donegal scoring against the Breffni men was shared by Daithi Gildea and Karl Joseph Molloy, who hit 0-4 each.
After that defeat, Donegal had last weekend off but they had time to prepare for this weekend's encounter with the Oak Leaf boys.

Now on Saturday they face their toughest test to date against a Derry side who accounted for Cavan last weekend by a nine point margin, 1-13 to 1-4. In their other game they defeated Sligo 1-15 to 0-7.

On that line of form, Derry will go into Saturday's game as strong favourites. However, it will be a chance for Donegal to show their mettle. After next Saturday's game, Donegal have just one game left in the Jim McGuigan Cup, that at home to Sligo.
