St Eunan's take the points in close battle with Aodh Ruadh in Munday's Field

In a game that was not for the purist, St Eunan's went home with the league points from Ballyshannon after a big battle.

For two teams normally associated with attacking football, this was a game for defences with St Eunan's, in particular, very shot shy.

A goal early in the second half was the difference but Aodh Ruadh have only themselves to blame for not getting at least a share of the spoils as they missed two great chances late on.

In a very cagey opening half it took 12 minutes to get the first score in Munday's Field and it was almost a goal. A free from Nathan Boyle came back off the upright and Matt Gillespie was alert to first time. The ball clipped the crossbar and went over.

St Eunan's, after recording four wides, finally replied in the 15th minute when Eoin McGeehin won and pointed a free.

Another five minutes elapsed before the third point arrived and it was a good effort from Nathan Boyle after a good pass from Donagh McIntyre.

Again Eoin McGeehin levelled from another free and Conor O'Donnell snr came forward to show his forwards the way to put the Letterkenny side in front.

But before half-time Aodh Ruadh responded wth Diarmaid McInerney pointing a free after David Dolan was fouled and Nathan Boyle started and finished a minute into added to leave it Aodh Ruadh 0-4, St Eunan's 0-3 at the break.

The second half was a much better spectacle even though scores were still in scarce supply. But the big score of the game came within 40 seconds of the restart, a long ball in palmed to the net by Ronan McGeehin.

Aodh Ruadh responded well with points from Darren Drummond and a Nathan Boyle free to level matters. Then Boyle won a kick-out, burst forward and drilled over from the 45m line to put Aodh Ruadh back in front.

Darragh Ellison had St Eunan's back level on 39 minutes but two minutes later a great mark from Donagh McIntyre had the home side back in front on 41 minutes. Ironically, that would be Aodh Ruadh's last score.

Conor O'Donnell jnr levelled a minute later and Conor Parke came forward to point on 46 minutes, which was to prove to be the winner.
The final 19 minutes of play didn't produce a score as both sides defended in numbers again. Aodh Ruadh had two late chances from frees but Nathan Boyle and Diarmaid McInerney failed to convert and get a share in a game that they probably deserved something from.
