A goal inside of just 45 seconds set Glenswilly on their way to 13-point victory over Ardara - a result that relegated the Kentucky side to Division 2.
Ardara 1-5
Glenswilly 1-18
Glenswilly aren’t out of the woods just yet, as they now face into a winner-takes-all play-off against Killybegs to stay in the top flight.
At Pearse Park, the visitors essentially stamped out whatever danger there might’ve been before the contest ever caught fire. Within 15 minutes, Glenswilly were 1-5 to 0-1 ahead, with the goal coming from their first attack when Michael Murphy took on a pass from Jack Gallagher, cut inside a couple of challenges and set up Shaun Wogan to palm home.
Shane McDevitt and Murphy joined the act, with the Donegal captain hitting two points in the first half and three more after the break. By half-time, it was 1-9 to 1-4, with Ardara having given themselves some sort of hope when Gareth Concarr scored a penalty on 28 minutes after CJ Molloy was fouled by Ruairi Crawford.
However, that was the last time Ardara would score until the 58th minute, while Glenswilly knew there was no need to over exert themselves, with Murphy stroking over a couple of effortless frees from distance. Wogan and McDevitt got in on the act too, adding to a fine showing.
Kevin Whyte scored Ardara’s first point of the second half with just over two minutes to play but by then their status had all but been confirmed and Enda McFeely’s final whistle put an end to their suffering.
