Kilcar pulled away in the second half for an expected easy opening victory over Milford in Towney.

Kilcar 2-18

Kilcar led by 0-11 to 0-4 at the break, after Milford had matched them for the opening quarter. At that stage the home side only had a two point lead, 0-5 to 0-3. Ciaran McGinley, Patrick McBrearty (two frees), Mark Sweeney and Ryan McHugh had found the range for the home side while Rory O’Donnell and Kane Barrett with two had scored for Milford.

Five unanswered points from Brian O’Donnell, Ciaran McGinley, Eoin McHugh, Eoin Cormack and Ryan McHugh stretched the Kilcar lead to seven before Cathal McGettigan and Mark McHugh traded scores before the break.

The game was put to bed by the home side inside eight minutes of the restart with Eoin McHugh pointing and then finding the net after being put through by Oran Doogan. Kane Barrett did hit back with a goal for Milford after good work by Cathal McGettigan and Darragh Black but points from Ryan McShane, Mark Sweeney (2) and Patrick McBrearty put Kilcar clear.

Ciaran McGinley added a second goal after good approach play from Ryan McHugh and even though Rory O’Donnell and Patrick Ferry had late Milford points it was Kilcar who closed out the scoring with further points from Mark McHugh and Dara O’Donnell.
