Arranmore teenager Taidhg Trocme has reached Leitrim on his trek to Dublin in aid of the island’s RNLI.

18-year-old Taidhg set off on a 390km solo walk to Dún Laoghaire lifeboat station from his Arranmore station last Tuesday, August 5. He hopes to arrive on August 17 after two weeks on foot, carrying the supplies and equipment he needs for the journey.

He has now completed 173km, having passed through counties Fermanagh and Cavan.

Taidgh said he decided to undertake the arduous journey to fundraise for Arranmore RNLI as “they are a core part of my local community and have a rich and proud history on the island.

“I decided to use this opportunity to fundraise for the RNLI as they are a core part of my local community and have a rich and proud history on the island,” shared Taidgh on his Just Giving Page, Taidhg's walk for RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

“By leading search and rescue operations, doing medical evacuations and saving lives in all conditions, the lifeboat team (made up almost entirely of volunteers) show their courage and selflessness on an ongoing basis. Living surrounded by water, it's plain to see the enormous impact the RNLI has on the lives and safety of all those around the Irish and UK coasts.

“The RNLI receives no funding from governments and relies solely on donations to carry out its work, making fundraising all the more important. If you'd like to support this wonderful organisation you can leave a donation here and you can read more about the RNLI's work at https://rnli.org/.
