Financial literacy digital resource launched at Dungloe Library

Money Matters, a new financial literacy digital resource, was launched today at Dungloe Library (Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann). 

The event was officially launched by the Cathaoirleach of Glenties Municipal District, Cllr Michael McClafferty, who commended the initiative as a valuable and timely resource for households navigating an increasingly complex financial landscape.

Developed in partnership with MABS (Money Advice and Budgeting Service), Money Matters brings together up‑to‑date, trustworthy financial information in one easy-to-navigate online space. Covering topics such as budgeting, saving, borrowing, debt management, and planning, the resource is designed to help people build financial confidence and make informed decisions.

The launch took place as part of Social Inclusion Week, reinforcing the library service’s commitment to providing accessible, reliable information to support individuals and communities across Donegal.

Money Matters is now available in both English and Irish through the Donegal Library website, with a direct link also accessible on all adult public PCs in Donegal libraries, ensuring equal access for everyone, regardless of digital skill or device availability.

The resource forms part of Donegal Libraries’ wider Skills for Life programme, which aims to equip people with practical knowledge that supports wellbeing, independence, and lifelong learning.

Speaking at the event, Noreen Doogan of MABS Derrybeg, who played a key role in the development of the resource, said: “MABS is proud to collaborate with Donegal County Library Service on the creation of Money Matters. Every day we work with people who simply need clear, accurate information to help them manage their finances more confidently. “This resource brings all of that information together in one place, making it accessible to individuals and families across Donegal. It is an important step in strengthening financial well-being and promoting inclusion in our communities.

“We are delighted with the response to the launch of Money Matters," Donegal County Library Service said. "Our partnership with MABS has enabled us to develop a resource that is both practical and relevant to the real challenges faced by our communities today. Members of the public are encouraged to explore Money Matters via the Donegal Library website or by visiting any Donegal library, where the resource can be accessed on public PCs.
