Croí Mobile Health Hub to Visit Letterkenny during World Heart Month
Free blood pressure and cholesterol checks and CPR demonstrations will be available to the public by appointment during the visit.
The Croí Mobile Health Hub will be at Letterkenny Public Services Centre on Thursday, September 24, from 10 am to 4 pm, providing free cardiovascular health checks and practical advice to help adults understand and reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
As part of Croí’s World Heart Month “Heartfest” activities, the visit will offer adult members of the public free blood pressure and cholesterol checks and the opportunity to learn vital CPR skills.
The visit, supported by the Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation, forms part of Croí’s Croí In Your Community programme, which brings cardiovascular and stroke prevention services directly into communities across Ireland.
During September, World Heart Month, Croí is encouraging people to know their numbers, including their cholesterol levels, and take proactive steps to protect their heart health. High cholesterol is not always linked to lifestyle; for some people, it can be inherited.
Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH) is an inherited condition affecting around 1 in 250 people that causes very high LDL cholesterol from birth and, if left untreated, can lead to premature heart disease. Ahead of FH Awareness Day on September 24, Croí is inviting members of the public to visit its Mobile Health Hub, have their cholesterol checked, and learn more about FH, the importance of early detection, and how high cholesterol can be effectively managed to reduce cardiovascular risk.
The 13.6-metre Croí Mobile Health Hub is the largest vehicle in Ireland’s mobile health fleet. The multi-purpose unit is equipped with six private assessment cubicles and two consultation rooms, enabling Croí’s healthcare team to provide confidential health assessments directly within local communities.
Commenting on the upcoming community visits, Mark O'Donnell, Chief Executive of Croí, said: "Early detection is one of the most effective ways to prevent heart disease and stroke. Through our partnership with The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation, we're delighted to bring these free health checks directly into communities, making it easier for people to understand their cardiovascular risk and take positive steps to protect their health."
