Seven-day event to take place in August and September

Donegal Camino organisers announce dates for 2026 edition

The Donegal Camino dates have been announced for 2026

The Donegal Camino, a week-long walking festival that has raised over €400,000 for charity in five years, has announced the dates for the 2026 event.

Starting on Sunday, 30 August, at Inishowen, the event will take in seven days of stunning walking across Donegal, with the finale being on Saturday, September 5, at Sliabh Liag.

The event will continue to fundraise for Cancer Care West Support Centre Donegal, with the full itinerary announced in February, along with all registration details.

Organisers hope to continue the momentum from the 2025 Donegal Camino, which raised a record-breaking sum of €153,227.52, bringing the amount of money raised in the five years of the event taking place, to €432,552.82.

Funds raised help the Cancer Care West Support Centre Donegal, based at Pearse Road in Letterkenny, to provide individual and group support through various therapies and classes to approximately 350 people each year, as well as enabling the charity to provide counselling hours in Donegal.

In 2025, the Donegal Camino attracted 667 walkers from all across the world to participate.

It was originally founded by Peggy Stringer, an Inishowen businesswoman, and the Donegal Camino has been centred on the “true ethos” of a Camino, “a pilgrimage which brings together a network of beautiful and inspiring walking and hiking routes and of course, people.”

According to the Donegal Camino website, it “showcases the stunning beauty and world-class walking and hiking of the Northwest County along with Donegal’s hospitality, excellent food, and warm and welcoming people.”
