Myrid Carten's 'A Want In Her' nominated for two IFTAs

A Donegal director has been nominated for two prestigious Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) awards, with her debut film, ‘A Want In Her.’

Myrid Carten has been nominated for the Director category,  along with her film being nominated for the George Morrison Feature Documentary award.

Other contenders for the Director category are the directors of films such as Saipan, Christy, The Surfer, Báite, and Horseshoe.

Previously, Myrid Carten has won awards for her debut film at the British Independent Film Awards, where she won prizes for Best Feature Documentary, Best Debut Director - Feature Documentary, and the Raindance Maverick Award, awarded to deserving and “maverick” films with a budget of under £1 million.

‘A Want In Her’ was released in Irish and British cinemas in October, and follows the documentary maker as she returns from London to Donegal’s Gaeltacht to search for her alcoholic mother, who has gone missing.

The search for Myrid’s mother takes her into a feuding family, a contested house, and a history that threatens to take everyone down, including herself, as family members reveal the trials of loving someone who struggles with addiction and madness.

Ahead of the film’s release, Myrid told Donegal Live: “A Want In Her is a film for the big screen, and I’m delighted it will be in cinemas across Ireland and the UK in October.

“Some of the best moments of the festival run have been seeing it connect with audiences and getting messages like ‘what a feeling to be in a cinema where everyone is just entirely focused and immersed in what is happening on the screen.”
