Woman fined €300 for parking in Donegal Town disabled parking bay without permit

A woman was fined €300 plus costs of €138 for parking in a Donegal Town disabled persons parking bay without displaying a disabled persons parking permit.

Aisling McHugh, of The Mullins, Donegal Town, was found to be the registered owner of a motor vehicle which was on June 17, 2025, parked in a disabled persons parking bay at No.1 Car Park, Donegal Town without displaying a disabled persons parking permit, contrary to Article 44 of the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997 (S.I. No. 182 of 1997) and Section 35(5) of the Road Traffic Act 1994.

The defendant was not present at Donegal District Court at Ballyshannon Courthouse, but Judge Éiteáin Cunningham was satisfied to proceed. 

Judge Cunningham said: “Parking in a disabled bay is one of the more serious parking offences. Disabled persons need access.”

She convicted and fined Ms McHugh €300 plus costs of €138, payable within four months.
