Breifne Earley, who nearly took his own life six years ago, told a conference today that deciding to "just keep going" was what helped him lose five stone, complete triathlons and marathons, and go on to cycle around the world.

He was speaking at the Inspire Hope conference at the Abbey Arts Centre in Ballyshannon. The event, which started at 1pm and continues to 5pm, opens the 2nd Connect Mental Health Conference in Donegal which runs at venues across the county for the next week.

Other speakers today include: Donal Scanlan of Mental Health First Aid Ireland; Dr Keith Gaynor on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for for Anxiety and Depression; health and wellness coach Alison Canavan; Ruairí McKiernan, co-founder of SpunOut.ie mental health resource for young people; noveleist Tara West; and Olympic silver medalist, boxer Kenneth Egan.

The conference is being broadcast live on Facebook on Connect Mental Health, or follow on #inspirehope.
