Pope Francis to arrive in Knock shortly

Waiting in the rain for Pope Francis in Knock

There were tailbacks of up to 10km reported early this morning as people made their way to Knock to see Pope Francis.

In difficult driving conditions thousands of people from Donegal and the rest of the country made their way to Knock and despite the delays and tailbacks most people were determined to make it to the famous Mayo shrine.

The Pope arrived at Ireland West Airport  a short time ago and it is anticipated his flight out of Knock, later this morning, may be slightly delayed. The Holy Father was greeted by Government Ministers, local bishops from the region and staff at the airport and special guests.

He is on his way from the airport now to Knock in a Skoda car. It has stopped raining in Knock but those awaiting his arrival say it is quite cold.
