After some Breeders Cup heroics on Saturday night, Dylan Browne McMonagle caught a redeye flight from Los Angeles to collect his Champion Jockey title at The Curragh.
The flat season came to a close on Sunday as Browne McMonagle took receipt of the Champion Jockey honours following a super campaign during which he amassed 95 winners.
It has been a rapid rise for the Letterkenny man, who took Willie Mullins’ 25/1 chance Ethical Diamond to a stunning win in the Longines Breeders Cup Turf at Del Mar in California at the weekend before jetting back to Ireland.
“It’s what dreams are made of,” Browne McMonagle said.
“This is what we get up for every morning. It’s great to see everyone here smiling, my whole family, friends, all my supporters, everyone and a big thanks to them all for coming.
“It’s great to lift this at the end of the year and hopefully it’s the first of many.”
It’s just over six years ago since Browne McMonagle rode for the first time under rules, placing second on Harvey Specter at Gowran Park in September 2019.
“It has been a rollercoaster since then,” he said.
“It wouldn’t be possible without all the trainers and owners and my colleagues in the weigh room keeping us all on the ball and keeping us safe out there.”
The Browne family travelled to the Curragh on Sunday in big numbers for a proud moment. Browne McMonagle was the Champion Apprentice in 2021 and 2022, but this year toppled reigning champion and six-time Champion Jockey Colin Keane to land the big title.

He said: “They have been there from day dot, no matter where it was. I was always brought to where I was needed, but it’s a big achievement for them too. It’s huge.”
Reflecting on his magnificent win on Ethical Diamond, he added: “Just topped off the whole thing. It was very special. We were just thinking if he could be placed, it was great. It was just like reading a book, the plan we made; it all happened so smooth.”
