The annual summer show at the Cairn Theatre in Greencastle continues to draw the crowds every Tuesday night.
The Cairn Theatre Group presents ‘Music and Memories of The Golden Years’ every Tuesday evening during the months of July and August.
The show, which is already proving a hit with appreciative audiences, is written by celebrated Greencastle singer-songwriter and custodian of the arts Patsy Cavanagh.
Patsy says it’s a throwback to a less complicated era, when our lives weren’t dominated by technology in the way that they are now.
“It takes the audience back to the 1950s and early 1960s before the Internet, computers or mobile phones became so much a part of our everyday lives,” he explains.
“It's hard for younger people to believe that many areas did not have electricity until the mid-60s,” Patsy smiles.
Remarkably, the Cairn Theatre has now been staging summer shows for a quarter of a century. For Patsy, it’s like a reunion of friends every season.
“We have been presenting our summer shows for the past 25 years, and so many of our audience are like old friends. Our group is all from the local area, and all of them have been involved in the Cairn for many years.”
“The Cairn is a small and intimate venue, where everyone can feel part of the show. It's lovely when the audience shares some memories of their own.”

The Cairn Group performs a wide selection of songs from the past, ranging from Irish ballads to early rock and roll songs, with the invitation for the audience to join in too.
“We look forward to welcoming old friends and meeting new ones,” adds Patsy.
Music and Memories of The Golden Years takes place at Greencastle’s Cairn Theatre every Tuesday evening at 8pm during July and August. For further information, phone 07493 81104. All welcome.
