Donegal County Council is appealing to visitors not to illegally park at Shroove beach this weekend.
The appeal comes following several vehicles being abandoned at the roadside in recent weeks and blocking access for public transport and emergency service vehicles on the Moville to Greencastle road.
Motorists who park illegally could face fines after An Garda Síochána is expected to be on patrol in the area, following a request from Donegal County Council, who have requested their assistance in maintaining a safe and unobstructed access, with more visitors expected to flock to the picturesque beach.
Last Wednesday afternoon, Foyle Coaches Local Link bus had to divert its route and not service Shroove for the rest of the day after cars parked along the narrow road to Shroove Beach, meaning they were unable to reach their destination.
This has led to local people in recent days calling on Donegal County Council or An Garda Síochána to find a solution, especially as the good weather is expected to last well into next week and the Regatta is taking place in Greencastle, while more visitors are expected to flock to the picturesque beach.
It is anticipated that the Garda patrols are only a short-term solution as the local authority is expected to introduce double yellow lines at key pinch points along the Upper Greencastle Road (L-1471), subject to Garda approval.

A spokesperson for Donegal County Council confirmed that “visitors are reminded to park responsibly to ensure the public road on the main Moville to Greencastle Road R-241 and L-1471 remains clear for public transport and emergency vehicles.
“Donegal County Council thanks all visitors for their cooperation and wishes everyone an enjoyable weekend.”
