Uisce Éireann says efforts are continuing to restore normal water supply to homes and businesses following a mechanical issue at  the Slavery water treatment plant

Tankers are supplying water in Buncrana as supply continues to be disrupted following a mechanical issue at the Slavery water treatment plant.

Uisce Éireann says alternative water supplies are now available in the form of bulk tankers, which can be accessed at Buncrana fire station.

The utility says efforts are continuing to restore normal water supply to homes and businesses. Customers in Buncrana and surrounding areas may be experiencing low water pressure or outages.

The town has been affected by water outages since around lunchtime on Friday.

Local councillor Jack Murray said on Saturday morning that he has been “receiving messages from all over Buncrana about the water still being out”.

“It seems it still hasn't reached hilly or higher up areas. Hopefully, it won't be much longer.”

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Damien O’Sullivan, Uisce Éireann said: “We are continuing to do everything we can to restore the water supply as quickly as possible. Once normal operations are restored, it will take several hours for the network to refill and normal supply to return to all customers. I would like to thank customers in the area for their patience while these repair works are ongoing.”
