iCARE operates from a permanent base on Looking Glass Brae in Buncrana
Local autism charity iCARE will be featured on RTÉ One on Friday night when magazine programme Nationwide profiles the Buncrana-based group.
Formed in September 2000 by parents appalled by the lack of services and supports for children diagnosed with autism, Inishowen Children’s Autism Related Education (iCARE) has since put in place a vital support network for families across Inishowen.
Over the past quarter of a century, iCARE has steadily extended its services, establishing its base on Looking Glass Brae in Buncrana in 2007, the Sonas Youth Club for teenagers in 2013, and the iADULT day service in 2020.
iCARE provides after-school sessions, a Saturday club and school holiday programmes that offer structured activities to help children with autism develop social and communication skills, while also providing families with much-needed respite.

The charity celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and, after many years of effort, secured a significant funding package from the HSE worth €200,000 annually. The funding will help expand programmes for children and young people affected by autism across Inishowen.
A registered charity, iCARE has also recently commenced an interview process to appoint a new chief executive officer, reflecting the stronger financial footing it has achieved and its ambition to grow services while ensuring long-term viability and sustainability.
Friday night’s edition of Nationwide, broadcast on RTÉ One television from 7pm, will feature interviews conducted by reporter Tommy Stenson.
