There will be a series of Fairtrade-inspired events throughout Inishowen this month to celebrate ‘Fairbruary’, a Fairtrade campaign that runs throughout the month of February, encouraging people to choose Fairtrade products.
Last year, Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP), based in Buncrana and Carn, was recognised as a Fairtrade Ireland Workplace, and now it’s doing its part to raise awareness and encourage more Fairtrade choices.
The month-long celebration began this week with a Fairtrade Coffee Morning at IDP’s Buncrana office, where staff gathered to mark the start of Fairbruary and highlight the importance of choosing Fairtrade products.
The initiative is part of IDP’s ongoing commitment to ethically sourcing products where possible and our local to global responsibility, while also encouraging local businesses and other agencies to take steps toward becoming Fairtrade-recognised shops, restaurants, workplaces or schools.
Building on the success of the Coffee Morning, IDP has announced the next community event in the Fairbruary series: ‘Sewing for Good’, which is funded via PEACEPLUS and SEUPB, a programme managed by the Social EU Programmes Body ‘Inishowen is Ours’ programme through Donegal County Council.

The sewing workshops will take place on Monday 23rd February and 2nd March 2026, from 10am to 1pm at Buncrana Library and everyone is welcome.
The workshops are linked to the ECO Buncrana action plan, and this is an initiative in collaboration with DCC Library, who are delivering on a number of initiatives.
Participants will enjoy Fairtrade coffee while taking part in creative, hands-on activities, including making reusable bunting for party kits and completing a take-home upcycling project. No prior sewing experience is required.
