Fireaway seeks permissiom to stay open later
Plans have been lodged with Donegal County Council seeking permission to extend the operating hours of a takeaway premises on Buncrana’s Main Street.
The application, submitted by Dara Furey, relates to Fireaway, located on the Market Square, and seeks a minor amendment to a condition attached to the planning permission granted in 2023. That permission allowed for the change of use of a former bookmaker’s premises to a fast-food outlet.
As part of the original approval, the Council specified that the hours of operation would be restricted to between 10am and 12am, unless otherwise agreed in writing. The current application proposes to amend that condition to allow the business to remain open until 4am on weekends and public holidays.
Supporting documentation submitted with the application states that the extended hours would support the Buncrana Night-Time Economy Initiative, which forms part of the national Night-Time Economy pilot programme aimed at increasing evening activity and vibrancy within the town.
Fireaway began trading at the Market Square premises at the start of last year. If the revised operating hours are approved, it would become the latest-opening takeaway business in Buncrana on weekends and Bank Holidays.
