“I’d like to say a big thanks to all the nurses and doctors on the Oncology Ward. We will never forget your kindness”

A Gleneely woman has donated sixteen smart televisions to the Oncology Ward at Letterkenny University Hospital in memory of her late son, Trevor Henderson, in a heartfelt gesture of gratitude and remembrance.

Mary Doherty (Brick) made the donation on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, saying it was her way of thanking hospital staff for the exceptional care provided to Trevor during his illness.

She described the treatment her son received as second to none, and said the family would never forget the kindness shown by doctors and nurses on the ward.

Trevor Henderson, of Garrabawn, Gleneely, passed away in December 2024 at the age of 48. A well-known and respected local darts player, he had played successfully for many years with the Carrick’s Bar team, which also won the cup this year.

Trevor worked with Inishowen Oil in Carndonagh and was widely known throughout the community as a dedicated father-of-one and popular figure in local darts.

Speaking following the donation, Mary said: “On behalf of myself and Trevor Henderson’s family, I’d like to say a big thanks to all the nurses and doctors on the Oncology Ward in Letterkenny Hospital. They could not have cared more for any person than they did for Trevor. We will never forget your kindness. Yes, our hearts are broken, but I think he touched so many of you also.”

She explained that the funding for the televisions was raised through generous donations collected at a special darts event held in Carrick’s Bar to mark what would have been Trevor’s 50th birthday.

She extended her gratitude to everyone who supported the fundraiser, bought tickets, or contributed in any way.

Mary also thanked Gerry from Callaghan’s Electrical in Burt for his help in sourcing and delivering the sixteen smart TVs to the hospital.

She said she hoped the televisions would bring some comfort and distraction to patients undergoing treatment, adding that the support shown by the local community had been deeply appreciated by the family during a difficult time.
