Water way to celebrate science with family fun in Greencastle!

Fisheries College set to host a family-friendly festival celebrating water, science and creativity
A unique celebration of water and science will come to the Inishowen Peninsula this month.
Gríosadh Inís Eoghain: Is é an tUisce an Saol! (Water is Life!) will take place at Greencastle's BIM Fisheries Training College on Saturday 14 November
The event will bring families, communities, scientists and creative practitioners together for an engaging and accessible family fun day of science and creativity-themed activities.
Led by award-winning Donegal social enterprise Spraoi agus Spórt in partnership with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Loughs Agency, Inishowen Rivers Trust and the River Basin Management Service, and funded by Research Ireland, the event builds on the success of the Gríosadh Inis Eoghain Science Festival.
Set against the spectacular backdrop of Lough Foyle, Lough Swilly and the Atlantic Ocean, the festival will explore how water shapes our environment, supports marine industries and sustains local communities.
Through hands-on activities with the Spraoi agus Spórt Digital Creative Lab, interactive marine science workshops and creative animation and storytelling experiences, visitors will discover the fascinating science behind our rivers, coasts and seas.
The programme will also feature screenings, informal talks, and opportunities to meet experts and characters inspired by Ireland’s rich maritime heritage, encouraging conversations about sustainability, biodiversity and our shared water resources.
“We are excited to bring this inclusive, family-friendly event to Greencastle, one of Ireland’s key fishing communities,” said Spraoi agus Spórt’s Head of Innovation & Learning, John Peto.
“By combining science, creativity and local identity, Gríosadh Inís Eoghain: Is é an tUisce an Saol! aims to inspire curiosity, deepen environmental awareness and create lasting connections with STEM, sustainability and the marine world, while bringing a vibrant Science Week experience to communities across Inishowen. We have a brilliant partnership of local and national organisations working together to bring a fantastic day of free fun and learning as part of Ireland’s Science Week.”
