Traffic wardens to visit Letterkenny estate to address ‘dangerous’ illegal parking

Cllr Kavanagh said he had received photos and videos of illegal parking at Sprackburn Drive

Traffic wardens will visit Sprackburn Drive in Letterkenny more often to address illegal parking.

The estate is situated next to Letterkenny Credit Union and sees frequent illegal parking, despite double yellow lines to mark the junction. The issue is causing problems for residents accessing the estate.

Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh asked councillors at Letterkenny-Milford MD to “address ongoing parking issues” at Sprackburn Drive.

“I’ve been approached by a number of residents who say this is a daily problem,” said Cllr Kavanagh. “People are parking there and ignoring double yellow lines. It makes it near impossible for residents to access the estate.”

Cllr Kavanagh expressed concern about the possible implications for emergency services accessing the estate, saying the current situation is “downright dangerous”.

He added that there is a car park across the road that has a 50 cent charge.

Cllr Gerry McMonagle seconded the motion. “Yellow lines are there for a reason,” he said. “It’s a busy estate and we need traffic wardens for residents and those trying to exit onto the High Road.”

David McIlwaine, Roads and Transportation, said arrangements had been made for traffic wardens to visit the location more frequently and increase enforcement.
