Lidl has been granted planning permission for a number of modifications to the store
Lidl has been granted planning permission to add a deposit return scheme recycling facility to its store at Port Road in Letterkenny.
The facility will allow customers to return plastic bottles to a reverse vending machine in return for money-back vouchers which are redeemable in the store.
The deposit return scheme is part of a national policy that aims to boost the recycling rate for drinks containers. The scheme includes plastic bottles and aluminium and steel cans between 150ml and 3 litres. A deposit of 15 cents will apply to containers of 500mls or less and a deposit of 25 cents for containers above 500ml.
The retailer has also been granted planning for modifications to the ground floor layout and shop facade that include a single-storey extension at the front of the store to include the new facility.
Planning has also been granted for the removal of an existing entrance and exit pod, an existing trolley bay, a free-standing trolley bay, alteration works to store elevation and alteration works to the car park area.
Donegal County Council has granted planning permission for the plans with four conditions.
