The CEMR was previously known as the Air Ambulance Service and some of the Friends of LUH were on hand to see the new equipment which they helped to fund
A new Emergency Medical Response Service (CEMR) has been given a wonderful seal of support and approval by The Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital, to the tune of €15,000.
They said that they are very glad to support the CRI +ICAL Emergency Medical Response (CEMR) service, a voluntary service driven locally by Dr Gerry Lane, one of 12 volunteer Doctors nationwide and primarily rural.
The CEMR was previously known as the Air Ambulance Service.
The purpose of CEMR is to give critical, lifesaving medical care in the community in advance of the arrival of the National Ambulance service on site.
In 2022, CMER responded to 120 missions in county Donegal, divided equally among medical emergencies, cardiac arrests, and trauma.
The Friends were only too happy to respond to a request for funding from CEMR for the LUCAS automatic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation kit at a cost of €15,000.
This equipment provides automated CPR to patients who have had a cardiac arrest until an ambulance arrives.
Some of the new equipment on display
Like the Friends, CEMR is a registered charity, the vehicle pictured was part funded by the Department of Rural Development via Clar funding; fuel, equipment and consumables charitably sourced from, and for, rural communities.
The photos were taken at a demonstration of the new car and equipment by Dr Lane recently for some members of the Friends.
