A Scottish woman is looking to meet up with an old school friend when she makes a trip to Donegal next month.

Lynn McCarthy (neé Sloan), who lives in East Kilbride, Glasgow, was originally from Pollokshields and went to school at Holyrood Secondary School on the city’s south side, and was friends with Elma McGonagle. Elma moved back to Letterkenny, where he parents were from, just a year after they finished in 1977/78, having lived at Forth Steet, Pollokshields, Glasgow.

They kept in touch for a time through letters, with Lynn addressing to Donegal via Elma’s aunt, whose surname was Cahill and who worked at Letterkenny Post Office. Anyone who might have any information can email Lynn here.

“I know this is a long shot but my old school friend from Glasgow went back to Letterkenny with her family in 1977/78 and we lost touch,” Lynn told DonegalLive. “We were great friends and went through secondary school together; her family were my second family.

“I am coming over to Letterkenny on September 21 to celebrate my 65th birthday and would love to find her but I don't know where to start. I know she married but I don't know her married name!”.
