Evidence has been found in the manhunt for the gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York.

Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was shot dead in New York on Wednesday. He was the CEO of the company which is, like the Letterkenny-based Optum, a subsidiary of the UnitedHealth Group.

Thompson was fatally shot in midtown Manhattan as he headed for UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference at the New York Hilton Hotel before being pronounced Mount Sinai West hospital.

Law enforcement officers on Friday discovered a backpack in Central Park that is believed to have belonged to the suspected shooter, who was masked. The backpack was sent for forensic examination.

The New York Police Department have a video of the man entering the Port Authority Bus Terminal after fleeing the scene of the shooting on a bicycle, but, as yet, no video of him exiting.

“It’s a very busy bus terminal, we want to make sure we have the right bus. But we’re working through that right now, this is all new information,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny to CNN.

Mr Thompson visited Optum employees in Letterkenny on several occasions, including an Optum town hall meeting. He was known to have enjoyed golfing in Donegal.
