Letterkenny community organisations to benefit from €1m in funding

Letterkenny Community Centre is one of the organisations to benefit from over €1m in funding

Over €1m in funding has been awarded to six social enterprise groups in Letterkenny.

Funding totalling €1,006,574 has been awarded under the Social Enterprise Capital Grant Scheme.

Cairde le Cheile has been awarded €200,000 for premises extension, Letterkenny Community Development Project has received €200,000 for premises acquisition, Letterkenny Community Centre is to get €200,000 for capital development, €125,000 has been awarded to Cara House Family Resource Centre for the refurbishment of the centre, Congress Resource Centre is to receive €110,700 for premises renovation and the No Barriers Foundation has been awarded €170,874 for equipment.

Letters of offer have been sent to the six local organisations, the March meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District heard. Local councillors have welcomed the allocation of the funding. 

The mayor of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh said the funding was very welcome and would make a huge difference to the groups.

Sinn Féin councillor Gerry McMonagle said he had no doubt the well-deserving recipients would benefit from the funding.

Fianna Fáil councillor Ciaran Brogan said the announcement of the funding made for a great day for the council. He said the successful applicants have been operating on a shoestring.

The funding will cement a lot of the services and make them permanent, he said. “I think this is going to be a real game-changer for so many people who benefit from the great work that these community organisations do."
