Killygordon apprentice Oisín Alexander took home a Silver Medal Award at WorldSkills Ireland 2025.
Oisín was the Welding winner within the Manufacturing & Engineering Technology Category. A former Finn Valley College student, Oisín is now a Metal Fabrication apprentice working for Mooney Boats Ltd.
Speaking after his win, Oisín said he was “fairly happy” with the award. He is now moving into Phase 4 of his apprenticeship and hopes to go to WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
Cathal McGee, Welding Instructor with Donegal ETB and WorldSkills Ireland Chief Welding Expert, oversaw Oisín’s training.
“He did well, he was here last year and he realised what it was all about so he put in a lot of effort in and he came out trumps so I’m delighted for him,” said Cathal.

A total of ten apprentices from Donegal competed at WorldSkills Ireland 2025, which took place from September 17-19 in the RDS, Dublin.
The Donegal apprentices also included Aaron Callaghan, competing in Industrial Mechanics; Ciaran Chaney, competing in Cyber Security; Daniel Dalton, competing in Freight Forwarding Logistics; Cathal Doherty, competing in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics; Kyle McLaughlin, competing in Plumbing and Heating; Matthew Shovlin, competing in Automobile Technology; Eoghan Tuttlebee, competing in Carpentry and Patrick Brennan, competing in Metal Fabrication.
