As the Christmas and festive seasons are over and decorations are taken down, people are being asked to responsibly recycle their natural trees
It’s still not too late to recycle your Christmas tree for free through Donegal County Council.
As the Christmas and festive seasons are over and decorations are taken down, people are being asked to responsibly recycle their natural trees.
The last day to avail of the Council's free natural Christmas tree recycling service is this Saturday, January 24.
Speaking at this morning’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD), Caroline McCleary of the council’s Environment Section said this year’s campaign has been a “huge success.”
“Our new natural Christmas trees campaign has been a huge success and we are currently out collecting them from the recycling depots,” she said.

“But, it’s still not too late to leave your tree in. We also partnered with the Loughs Agency to use old Christmas trees to help prevent erosion on the River Cummirk up in Glenfin. That is a win-win situation for both the agency and ourselves.”
Councillor Martin Harley said the partnership with the Loughs Agency is a “great idea” and should be rolled out all over the country.
