The Winter Maintenance section on the Donegal County Council website directs users to live webcams showing the conditions on some of the main routes around the county
The Donegal public is being urged to make full use of the council’s website to get updates on road conditions and find locations of community grit pits.
The matter was raised at yesterday’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD) during a discussion on the recent cold snap which left some roads in a treacherous condition.
The Winter Maintenance section on the Donegal County Council website directs users to live webcams showing the conditions on some of the main routes around the county. It has a link for applications for Community Group Salt Bins.
Donegal County Council’s Area Engineer, Claire McGeever, said the website is a great resource.
“The Council does not have the resources to treat the entire road network and has deployed Community Grit Heaps for the public to avail of and help keep the county moving in times of prolonged cold weather,” she said.
“This grit is available for collection for spreading on public roads by the public or for replenishing grit bins within estates. A map is available on the DCC website of the locations.”
