New bank holiday weekend event coming to Glenveagh National Park

The Connect with Nature event is suitable for absolute beginners; no previous experience is needed

National parks are great places to learn and it’s not just school children that can visit Glenveagh to learn about nature and wildlife. This winter sees the launch of a new event that is aimed at adults and hopes to help anyone who would like to get to know a little bit more about nature.

The Connect with Nature – Adult’s Winter Workshop runs on the new bank holiday weekend in February with a choice of two dates. It offers participants a chance to deepen their relationship with nature through a full-day learning experience in the national park.

Winter is a special time to visit Glenveagh. People are invited to book and come along this February and experience the tranquillity of the winter landscape and to take the first steps into nature. The education team at the park explain:

"You don’t need to go fast or far to discover and experience the natural world all around you. Our workshop provides you with the space to take some time out of your busy schedule and spend a day in the outdoors. This experience is suitable for retired people in the local community, new arrivals to the area or anyone who would like a gentle introduction to Irish nature and biodiversity.

"Our adult’s workshop will give you a chance to unwind, connect with nature and unleash your creativity. Spend time being mindful in nature as you get to know about our natural world and how to care for it with the help of our friendly Education Staff.

"We will take you on an immersive nature walk through beautiful natural habitats as you learn a little bit about nature and connect with your environment through nature art. Delve into our nature library at the Education Centre over tea and chats and visit our wildlife garden. The workshop and all equipment is provided free of charge. Just bring your own picnic and snacks and a flask.’

This event is suitable for absolute beginners; no previous experience is needed. A choice of two dates is available; Sunday or Monday, February 5 or 6. Workshops run from 10am-3pm and are held in The Education Centre, outdoor classroom and on the Derrylahan Nature Trail. The workshops include an outdoor element so suitable clothing and footwear are essential. Contact the Park in advance if you have any additional needs.

This is a bookable event that is suitable for adults and can be tailored for groups of up to 15. Subject to interest, alternative dates may be made available to community groups who would like to avail of the workshop.

The Education Centre staff can also provide other training for adults such as the Leave No Trace Awareness Certificate and Teachers Workshops. Contact the park to discuss how the National Park can help support your local community in lifelong learning and education about nature.
