A fresh planning application has been lodged for the development of new retail units and apartments on a derelict site on Main Street, St Johnston.

Ajit Singh has sought planning permission for a development.

The proposed development would see the construction of a commercial unit to consist of two retail units.

The development would also consist of five self-contained apartments. The application provides for all ancillary works with connection to all existing services.

Donegal County Council say a decision on the application will be made in September.

In 2010, the local authority refused permission for Mr Singh to develop two retail units and two apartments on the same site.

Then, they said in relation to their decision: “On the basis of existing lack of sewage treatment capacity of the St Johnston public sewerage treatment system and in the absence of any imminent proposals to upgrade said treatment system, the Planning Authority consider that to permit the proposed development would present an unacceptable risk of surface water pollution of the receiving waters of the River Foyle, (a Special Area of Conservation), be detrimental to public health, and would be premature pending the upgrading of the St Johnston Sewerage Treatment System.”
